How I got my 2 year-old to stop breastfeeding

It all began when I found out I was pregnant with my second son, I didn’t want to have both feeding at the same time and sucking me dry so, I decided that it was time to wheen the 2 year-old off of breastfeeding (boobie lol). I started by distracting him during the day if he asked for it I’d ask him where his toys were or ask if he wants milk in his cup, that would hold him off during the day. When it came to night it was more of a struggle because he would be tired and he wasn’t wanting to do anything else but sleep and would just keep crying until he got it so, I started just breastfeeding during the day then breastfeeding at night so we all get some sleep. After about a week or so of him just breastfeeding during the day I tried to do only breastfeeding every other day it worked maybe one time and then he figured out what we were doing and wasn’t having it. We have tried taking him on drives, walking around, holding him and singing but nothing seemed to work. After a while of sleepless nights, we gave up on trying to wheen him from breastfeeding. We didn’t start to try again with the wheening until we had our second son, it got so hard to sleep and handle both at the same time because they both wanted to be breastfeed, until I learned about a special vitamin called melatonin we give the 2 year-old 5mg every night at 8-8:30pm. This vitamin has been our lifesaver and we all have been sleep and waking up well rested, he’s been doing really well and hasn’t asked to be breastfed and he hasn’t had “boobie” as he calls it for 2 weeks now and making progress. This experience has been a hard one but also a good one because we have done a lot of things differently with the second son and hope when he is that age he will not be so difficult to wheen. I’m no expert to using the melatonin but I recommend using it especially if you’re running low on sleep, this will help you catch up on some well needed rest.
